The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, working with the Nigeria Revenue Service, NRS, has concluded a two-day capacity building programme aimed at bringing its officers up to speed with the Federal Government’s revised tax policies.

The workshop held from Wednesday, June 17 to Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the NCS Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja. It drew participants from across the Service’s ranks, including members of the Management Team, Area Comptrollers, Superintendents, and other cadres.

Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, at the opening session, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, DCG Kikelomo Adeola, said the training was timely given recent shifts in national tax administration.
She explained that the Service plays a central role in government revenue collection and must stay ahead of policy changes. The programme, she noted, was structured to give officers practical knowledge of the new tax regime and reinforce professional standards in revenue operations.
DCG Adeola stated that tax compliance goes beyond statutory duty. She described it as a marker of transparency and a driver of national development. According to her, building staff capacity ensures the Service adapts to fiscal reforms without losing public trust or operational efficiency.
She also charged officers to remain informed on tax matters as the NCS continues to handle critical functions in trade facilitation, border management, and revenue mobilization for government.
Delivering her presentation, Assistant Director of Tax at the Nigeria Revenue Service, Victoria Udo, reminded participants that Pay-As-You-Earn, PAYE, remains one of the most dependable tools for personal income tax collection. She said compliance with PAYE does more than fulfill legal requirements. It also enables access to tax clearance certificates and other financial benefits tied to formal tax records.
Udo encouraged officers to engage fully during the sessions, ask questions, and share field experiences. She added that a clear grasp of the updated tax laws will help them carry out enforcement and revenue duties with greater precision and accountability.
The training is part of ongoing collaboration between the NCS and NRS to align frontline agencies with the Federal Government’s fiscal policy direction and improve overall tax administration nationwide.
