FG to curtail excessive borrowing, tasks FIRS on revenue collection

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has disclosed that the Federal Government has assured that the 2019 Finance bill recently signed into law by President Muhammed Buhari will curtail government’s excessive borrowing.

Mustapha said this when Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mohammed Nami and some members of the FIRS board visited in Abuja at the weekend.

A statement issued by Director of Communication at FIRS, Abdullahi Ismaila, noted that Mustapha also presented Nami and the newly inaugurated members of the FIRS board their letters of appointment.

The statement quoted Mustapha as saying that the Federal Government restated its support and confidence for Nami and members of the board to implement the 2019 Finance Law.

He disclosed that funding gaps between government expenditures, especially in the area of needed federal capital projects nationwide, forced government to borrow in recent times and urged the FIRS to be proactive in its tax collection drive under the 2019 Finance Law.

Responding, Nami solicited the support of everyone to deliver on his mandate and even exceed the targets in his new role as the FIRS boss.
