CGC STRIKE FORCE CHECKS TRADE INFRACTIONS – NETS OVER 460M SEIZURE By Jerry Aguigbo

The CGC Strike Force has since inception made it clear to those whose business thrives by short changing the Federal Government of revenue accruable from Imports and Exports either by outright concealment, under declaration, smuggling or undervaluation that it is no longer business as usual.

The CGC strike force, led by its national coordinator DC Usman Kirawa in a recent showcase of seizure hauled over Four Hundred and Sixty Million (460,839,156.3) worth of seizures made in different parts of the Zone A Axis led by AC Shuaibu Salisu due mainly to what the Coordinator Kirawa calls Intelligence Information.

According to him, it has become very imperative that these seizure are made because, ‘this has an effect on the economy and it is absolutely necessary to avail the Government with the required Revenue to execute its laudable program.

On the list of seizures made within February – March 2019 are: 6,102 bags of 50kg foreign per boiled Rice, with Duty paid value of 85,428,000. Some of these containers of Rice were falsely declared as sorghum running fowl of CEMA CAPA – 4 Import prohibition for making wrong declaration.

Next in line were 50 x 25litres of vegetable oil with DPV of 500,000, 2 used vehicles – Toyota Avalon No: 4T1BK36B8 with DPV of 2,500,000, A man Diesel Truck with DPV of 8,500,000. Another seizure which ran short of the import guideline is 1,698pcs of used Pneumatic tyres, ordinarily, this can be imported according to Kirawa but because some of those types are already expired and the entire consignment were concealed with empty crates of beer. Four (4) suspects were arrested but are on administrative bail. Also seized were four 40ft containers laden with Bales of second hand clothings. The breakdown of the containers content shows 77 bales. New Jean trousers, 16 Bales of Ladies belt, 12 bales of new T-shirts and 7 bales of New ladies hand bags valued at N38,771,600, the seized items ran contrary to CEMA cap 46.

Still making the list of seized items is one 40ft container, MRSU3516189 FTC, containing declared as mix-mold to evade payment of correct customs duty, in contravention of CEMA CAP 46. This item is valued at N36,480,000 only.

The coordinator, DC Kirawa while displaying these seizure warned those whose business it is to desist from this illicit and nefarious act because the watchful eyes of the CGC Strike force are on them and will not hold back seizing their wares and exposing them to the public to face the law.
