Delta monarchs back Okowa on measures against COVID-19 as suspended workers beg gov for reinstatement

The Delta State Traditional Rulers Council backed the ban on social activities by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to check the pervasive CONVID-19 outbreak in the country.

Its chairman and the Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor II, who communicated the decision in a statement, noted that the embargo was proactive to prevent the importation of the virus into the state.

The traditional rulers threatened sanctions for violators in their localities.

Commending the National Emergency Operation Centre and the Multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Committee for their efforts at arresting the situation, the royal fathers implored Deltans to adhere strictly to all precautionary measures, including frequent handwashing with soap and alcohol-based sanitisers.

They also urged the citizens to practise social distancing of at least two metres.

The monarchs equally challenged themselves on healthy rivalry and unobtrusive dissemination of vital information to their subjects.

Meanwhile, a group, Suspended Civil Servants, has written the governor, urging him to review their suspension since 2015.

They had been relieved by the current administration for alleged employment irregularities.

But in a statement in Asaba by their chairman and secretary, Erhadje Clement and Asini Victor, the affected employees sought justice and restoration to their duty posts.
