Jamoh takes over at NIMASA with new executive directors, as FG approves new board for agency, NPA

Newly appointed Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Bashir Jamoh has taken over from Dr. Dakuku Peterside with fresh executive directors.

With President Muhammadu Buhari removal of the former executive directors and appointed new ones, Dakuku’s four-year tenure ended March 10, 2020 having been appointed on March 10, 2016.

He handed over to Jamoh at a ceremony held in NIMASA’s boardroom in Apapa, Lagos.

The Guardian learnt that the sack of former Executive Director, Operations Rotimi Fasakin and his Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services counterpart, Gambo Ahmed followed government’s determination to reform NIMASA through a new management team.

A former Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Victor Ochei, took over from Ahmed as new Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services, Chidi Ofodile is new Executive Director Finance and Administration, while Shehu Ahmed is the Executive Director, Operations.

Delivering a speech shortly after taking over, Jamoh praised Dakuku for turning around the fortunes of NIMASA and enforcing a knowledge transfer policy on the agency.

While congratulating Peterside on the completion of his tenure, he described him as a strategist, planner, executioner and articulated person full of energy, passion and dedication.

“Today marks a turning point in the history and existence of NIMASA and as I take the mantle of leadership, I am confident that with your support and the calibre of persons in the new management and Board, the agency will achieve the ideals that informed its establishment in line with global best practices.

Speaking, Peterside listed the gains of the agency under him in four years, saying, “We came with a broad agenda in 2016 and we consistently focused on staff training, improved working conditions and welfare of our staff. Today, we boast of staff who are more knowledgeable and who can compete with their peers at any level locally and internationally.

“We championed the greatest reform in maritime administration in the history of this agency and we changed the narrative and reinvigorated the industry and put NIMASA back on the international map.

President Buhari also approved appointment of members of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

Members of the Governing Board of NPA are, Chief Akin Ricketts (Chairman) Muhammed Koko (Executive Director); Professor Idris Abdulkadir (Executive Director) and Onari Brown (Executive Director).

Other members are, Ghazali Muhammed; John Akpanuoedehe; Binta Masi Garba; Mustapha Aminu Dutse; Abdulwahab Adeshina; while Hadiza Bala Usman remains Managing Director.
