Again bandits attack Kaduna community, abduct headmaster, others

• Benue police recover remains of slain officer’s wife from shallow grave

Again, armed bandits attacked Birnin-Gwari Community in Kaduna State yesterday, kidnapping a primary school headmaster, AbdulHafiz Abdullahi and two others victims at Doka Filling Station.

The bandits also shot two other persons leaving them seriously injured.

A statement issued by the Birnin-Gwari Vanguard for Security and Good Governance, confirmed that, “Armed bandits abducted the Head Teacher of Dangamji Primary School and two others at Doka Filing Station, while two others where shot and seriously wounded.”

The statement signed by Chairman of the group, Ibrahim Abubakar Nagwari, noted that heavily armed bandits also shot at vehicles around Polwaya and abducted a bread vendor about 10 kilometers from Birinin-Gwari.

When contacted, Spokesman of the Kaduna Police Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, did not respond to the incident as at press time.

Besides, kidnapped Principal of Government Technical College, Maraban Kajuru in Kajuru Council Area, Francis Maji, has been released after one week in his captors’ den.

It was learnt that abductors dropped the principal at a location yesterday morning after collecting an undisclosed amount in ransom.

Meanwhile, a joint security team of the Benue State Police Command’s Operation Zenda, has recovered the decomposed remains of one Mrs. Bridget Ihom, who was killed by armed bandits from a shallow grave.

It was also learnt that unknown gunmen had in May this year killed a police officer serving in Katsina-Ala division, Abraham Ihom and his wife, Bridget in Zaki-Biam, Ukum Council Area of the state.

However, their killers were revealed when a team of Operation Zenda led by SP Justin Gberindyer waded into the matter and recovered Bridget’s decomposed remains, but Sergeant Ihom’s corpse has not been found as at the time of filing this report.

Sources from the area disclosed that men of Operation Zenda also arrested some suspects in connection with the murder of the couple.

Reacting to the development, Ihom’s family members commended Gberindyer and his team, the Nigerian Police and Governor Samuel Ortom for intensifying the war against crime in the state.

Men of Operation Zenda had uncovered a mass grave in Ushongo Council Area where kidnapped victims were killed and buried, a discovery that led to the arrest of six suspects who were recently arraigned in court.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed the development, said the suspects were already being transferred to the state Police Command in Makurdi, adding that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mukkadas Garba, would soon brief the media on the matter.
