The Nigerian Ports Authority has stepped in to resolve a long-standing logistics challenge, leading to the release of critical power equipment belonging to the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited that had been stranded at various ports nationwide.

The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the management of NDPHC to the headquarters of the NPA in Marina, Lagos, over the weekend. The NDPHC delegation was led by its Managing Director, Engineer Jennifer Adighije, and was received by the Managing Director of NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, alongside members of his management team.

According to Adighije, the consignments contained essential components required for the execution of key power projects across the country. She explained that the prolonged stay of the equipment at the ports posed serious risks to project schedules and threatened to inflate costs significantly. She noted that without timely intervention, the company stood to incur losses running into several billions of naira.

She further stated that the release of the equipment will now enable NDPHC to fast-track the implementation of ongoing and planned infrastructure projects aimed at improving electricity supply across the federation. She described the NPA’s action as timely and vital to the stability of Nigeria’s power sector.

Adighije used the opportunity to appreciate the leadership of the NPA for its responsiveness and commitment to resolving the matter. She said the collaboration between both organisations reflects the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing bottlenecks that affect national development. She added that the visit was also intended to deepen the working relationship between NDPHC and NPA and explore further areas of partnership.

Responding, Dr. Dantsoho thanked the NDPHC team for the visit and acknowledged the critical role of reliable power supply in driving industrial growth and improving the quality of life for Nigerians. He congratulated NDPHC on its contributions to the power sector and reiterated that the NPA remains committed to supporting government agencies and strategic partners whose work impacts the economy.

The NPA Managing Director assured that the Authority will continue to create an enabling environment for the smooth clearance of equipment and materials needed for infrastructure projects. He emphasized that the NPA is open to continuous engagement with stakeholders to ensure that port processes do not become obstacles to national development priorities.

Both parties agreed to sustain regular communication to address future logistics challenges and to ensure that critical national assets are processed through the ports without unnecessary delays.

The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs, symbolizing the renewed commitment to collaboration between the two organisations.
