Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its food relief campaign to Ogun State with the distribution of over 2,000 food packs to residents in Abeokuta. The outreach was held at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Itesi, Adatan, and targeted vulnerable households across the state capital.
The exercise is part of the bank’s Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, a Corporate Social Responsibility programme launched in 2023 to address food insecurity and support families facing economic pressure. Since inception, the bank says it has distributed more than 300,000 food packs across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Folaranmi Jemirin, Regional Bank Head, South West 1, Fidelity Bank Plc, said the initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger. He explained that beyond providing immediate relief, the programme is designed to strengthen communities and improve living standards in areas where the bank operates.
Jemirin noted that Fidelity Bank’s engagement in Abeokuta goes beyond food distribution. He cited ongoing support in education, youth rehabilitation, women’s economic empowerment and other welfare programmes. According to him, the goal is to create lasting impact by working with local institutions and community leaders.
“This is about restoring hope to families and ensuring that people have access to basic necessities. We are grateful to the Catholic Diocese and our other partners for making this possible. Our commitment is to continue to invest in initiatives that bring real value to our host communities,” he said.
The Cathedral Administrator, Rev. Fr. Dominic Olagbaju, who received the items on behalf of beneficiaries, commended the bank for the gesture. He described the partnership as a demonstration of compassion and corporate responsibility. He added that collaboration between financial institutions and faith-based organisations is critical to reaching those most in need.
Also present at the distribution were Victoria Abuka, Team Lead, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fidelity Bank Plc; Rev. Fr. Michael Domingo, Fidelity Food Bank Partner; and Titilola Odede, Branch Leader, Fidelity Bank Plc, Sagamu.
The Fidelity Food Bank has become one of the bank’s flagship CSR interventions. Through partnerships with religious bodies, NGOs and community groups, the programme continues to provide food support to households across Nigeria while promoting inclusive development.
Fidelity Bank Plc operates as a full-service commercial bank with over 10 million customers and 255 business offices in Nigeria. It also has a UK subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited. The bank has received several recognitions in 2025, including awards for MSME support, retail and SME banking, export and trade finance, and community empowerment.
