HURIWA flays alleged violation of Nigerians’ rights

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has deplored President Muhammadu Buhari’s continued deployment of the armed forces to allegedly emasculate the civil rights of Nigerians.

The group stated this yesterday in a statement by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, and National Media Affairs Director, Zainab Yusuf, against the backdrop of the reported attacks by armed security agents in Lagos targeting participants at a town hall meeting titled ‘Revolution Now’ in which the likes of Professor Wole Soyinka and human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) among other Nigerians were disallowed from holding the scheduled peaceful assembly of pro-human rights advocates.

HURIWA, therefore, demanded the unconditional release of all those arrested in connection with any forms of non-violent civic engagements to protect their rights as enshrined in Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
