Abdulsalam, Jonathan unveil new Yenagoa City, commend Governor Seriake Dickson

Former military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd) and erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday lauded Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson for his developmental strides as the state unveiled the new Yenagoa City.

Abubakar, who was chairman of the occasion, said he was delighted that the state had transformed under Dickson’s watch.

He said: “I can’t believe that Yenagoa has developed to this level. Yenagoa is one of the fastest developing cities in the country. The vision of the new Yenagoa City is laudable.

On his part, Jonathan advised other governors to always continue with projects initiated by their predecessors to facilitate their completion for the country to witness accelerated development.

The Bayelsa native regretted that some abandoned projects by successive administrations in some states could have impacted the lives of citizens meaningfully.

“I am pleased with Governor Dickson on this project. As long as our leaders have dreams and aspirations, it will not take us more than 25 years to develop Yenagoa and other parts of Bayelsa State.

“Governors must endeavour to take over projects from their predecessors and complete them so that our country can be developed,” Jonathan stated.

In his remarks, the governor said his administration had in the last seven and half years built on the dreams of past administrations in the state.

He, therefore, implored the people of the state to shun divisive tendencies and falsehoods for better development of the state.

Dickson later presented the land to all ex-presidents in the country.

Also gifted with land and certificates of occupancy (C of O) are one-time state governors, state Assembly members and heads of security formations in Bayelsa, including the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Navy and the Joint Military Task Force, codenamed Operation Delta.
