MARAN Restates Commitment To Promotion Of Safe Online Environment For Journalists

The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) is set to hold a one-day workshop on cyberbullying, which it described as “a growing concern for journalists in the maritime industry.”
In a statement issued at the MARAN  International Maritime Centre in Apapa, MARAN, in conjunction with the Port Police, said it aims to educate participants on prevention, identification and response to cyber bullying, ensuring a safer online environment with the theme: Cyber Bullying: A growing Concern.

The pioneer maritime journalists group informed that the event slated for Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the International Maritime Centre, Apapa, will be an opportunity to equip maritime journalists with strategies to prevent and intervene in cyber bullying incidents.
The statement further explained that cyber bullying, which entails the use of technology to harass, intimidate or threaten someone, has become a significant issue for journalists, adding that the workshop seeks to address the menace, as well as promote online safety and responsible reporting practices.
Highlights of the event included defining cyber bullying and its forms, recognizing signs and symptoms of Cyber bullying, developing strategies for prevention and intervention in reportage by empowering maritime journalists with knowledge and skills to combat cyber bullying.
