Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc, SAHCO, has concluded its annual Management Retreat at the Marriott Hotel, bringing together its executive team, regional managers, station managers, and key stakeholders for a strategic session themed “Reimagining Excellence: Ethics, Thrive and Sustain.” The retreat was designed to deepen leadership alignment, reinforce ethical standards, and set a clear direction for the company’s long-term sustainability agenda in Nigeria’s competitive aviation ground handling space.

Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in forward-looking conversations around evolving industry dynamics, leadership responsibility, operational efficiency, and the principles needed to sustain growth in a rapidly changing business environment. The discussions centered on how SAHCO can continue to strengthen its reputation while delivering value to customers, employees, and shareholders.

Facilitated by Emmarach Limited and the Learning and Development Network International in partnership with SAHCO’s Training Department, the retreat featured seasoned resource persons who guided interactive sessions. Key topics included building a 360-degree performance-driven leadership culture, integrating work and life balance for sustained productivity, upholding ethical standards in the workplace, using technology as an enabler of operational excellence, and interpreting current economic trends alongside reform drivers. The sessions encouraged practical dialogue and equipped managers with actionable insights for navigating complex operational realities.

A major segment of the retreat focused on presentations from Executive Directors and Regional Managers. They provided updates on market trends, operational milestones, challenges encountered across regions, and opportunities for expansion. These presentations promoted cross-functional learning and underscored SAHCO’s emphasis on data-backed decision-making, collaborative leadership, and accountability at all levels of management.

Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, CON, the SIFAX Group Coordinating Director, Mrs. Wunmi Eniola-Jegede, commended the board, management, and staff for consistently projecting SAHCO in a positive light. She noted that aligning operational excellence with ethics and sustainability has been central to the company’s progress. She described the retreat as more than a strategy session, stating that it was also about developing leaders who will carry the company’s vision forward with integrity, responsibility, and measurable impact.

In her opening remarks, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Adenike Aboderin, acknowledged the dedication and sacrifice of the management team, noting that their commitment has been instrumental to SAHCO’s performance despite a challenging and dynamic operating environment. She said the company’s recent milestones reflect disciplined leadership, strong corporate governance, and robust operational processes. She urged management not to settle for past achievements but to use them as motivation to set higher standards, translate investments into capability, and deliver results that matter.

Mrs. Aboderin further emphasized that SAHCO’s strategic focus must remain on operational excellence, revenue growth, business expansion, and long-term sustainability. She stressed that achieving these goals will require bold thinking, decisive action, and a leadership approach that consistently exceeds customer expectations while reinforcing Nigeria’s standing in the global aviation industry.

The retreat also featured the recognition of outstanding stations that demonstrated exceptional performance during the review period. The awards highlighted SAHCO’s culture of rewarding excellence, encouraging healthy competition, and motivating teams across all locations to deliver superior service. Management noted that celebrating top-performing stations reinforces the company’s commitment to merit, accountability, and continuous improvement as it positions itself for greater achievements in the coming year.

At the retreat, SAHCO formally recognized outstanding performance across its stations and teams as part of its culture of celebrating excellence and accountability. Asaba Station was named the Most Profitable Station for the year, while Lagos Domestic Station clinched the award for Overall Operations Performance in recognition of its strong execution and service delivery.

Port Harcourt Station received the Reliability Excellence Award for its consistent and dependable service delivery, setting a benchmark for operational stability. Benin Station was honored with the Safety and Quality Award for maintaining high standards in safety compliance and service quality, while Abuja Station took home the Reporting and Transparency Award for demonstrating exemplary practices in accountability and corporate reporting.

Individual contributions were also spotlighted through the Digital Champions of 2025 Awards, presented to Ifeyinwa Emone of Abuja Station and Ebere-Wali Kenneth of Calabar Station. Both were recognized for leading digital innovation and driving technology adoption that has improved efficiency and service delivery within their respective stations.

The awards reinforced SAHCO’s long-standing tradition of promoting teamwork, recognizing merit, and investing in employees who represent the future of the organization. Participants described the retreat as engaging, insightful, and impactful, noting that the sessions and recognitions strengthened unity of purpose and renewed collective commitment to the company’s strategic direction.

The Management Retreat wrapped up with clear, actionable resolutions focused on driving performance improvement, upholding ethical governance, accelerating innovation, and embedding sustainable business practices across all regions.
