By Prince Benson Davies
SIFAX Group has extended its goodwill to Mr. Oluyinka Onigbinde following his election as President of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), assuring the new executives of the conglomerate’s full support as they take up leadership of the association.
The Group said Onigbinde’s emergence reflects years of consistent work, professionalism, and commitment to the development of maritime journalism in Nigeria.
In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of the Group, SIFAX Group Chairman, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, described the election outcome as well-deserved. He noted that Onigbinde has earned the trust of colleagues across the sector through credible reportage and sustained engagement on issues affecting the maritime industry.
“Your emergence as the President is proof of your professionalism, dedication, and consistent contributions to maritime journalism and the broader maritime industry over the years,” Afolabi stated.
Dr. Afolabi expressed optimism that MARAN would record greater strides under Onigbinde’s leadership, particularly in promoting professionalism, ethical journalism, unity among members, and constructive dialogue with industry stakeholders. He added that the media remains a critical partner in shaping policy direction and driving accountability within Nigeria’s maritime space.
He maintained that the new administration has a clear opportunity to deepen the association’s influence, improve capacity building for members, and strengthen collaboration between the press and operators across shipping, ports, logistics, and regulatory agencies.
As Patron of MARAN, Dr. Afolabi assured the new president of his personal support and that of SIFAX Group as the association works to advance its mandate. He wished Onigbinde wisdom, strength, and success in steering the affairs of the body during his tenure.
The endorsement from SIFAX Group signals renewed private sector backing for maritime media at a time the industry is navigating port modernisation, AfCFTA trade flows, and regulatory reforms that require informed, balanced, and professional reportage.
