SAHCO, UAE Embassy eye stronger cargo corridor to boost Nigeria-UAE trade
Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc is positioning itself to handle more Nigeria-UAE trade after strategic talks with officials of the United Arab Emirates Embassy in Lagos this week. The meeting focused on expanding e-commerce logistics, improving cargo handling capacity, and streamlining passenger services between both countries as bilateral trade continues to grow.
SAHCO management told the delegation that its certified facilities and recent investments in eco-friendly ground support equipment make it ready for higher cargo volumes. The company highlighted its IATA ISAGO safety certification, RA3 security status valid till 2027, and recent onboarding of new international carriers like Ethiopian Airlines, Air Tanzania and Air Algérie as proof of capacity to meet global standards. With Lagos and Abuja airports already handling increased freight, SAHCO said its cold-chain infrastructure and trained personnel give it an edge in managing perishables and pharmaceuticals.
Managing Director, Mrs Adenike Aboderin, said the collaboration aligns with SAHCO’s 2026 strategy to deepen partnerships and diversify into new aviation value lines. “We are committed to building corridors that make it faster and cheaper for Nigerian exporters and UAE businesses to move goods. Our people, processes and platforms are being strengthened to deliver that efficiency,” she stated. She added that improved trade facilitation will also create more jobs for Nigerian youths in cargo and logistics.
The UAE Embassy team expressed confidence in SAHCO’s track record and said joint proposals would focus on reducing turnaround times and improving cold-chain handling for perishables and pharmaceuticals. Both parties agreed to follow up with technical working sessions to finalize operational details and service-level agreements.
