The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has stepped in to settle an operational disagreement between Sifax Group and AGL Logistics concerning the berthing of a vessel operated by AGL. The intervention came as part of the Council’s mandate to regulate and mediate disputes within Nigeria’s maritime sector, ensuring that port activities proceed without unnecessary disruption.
According to the Council, the issue arose from differences in operational procedures related to vessel berthing at the terminal managed by Sifax Group. The matter had the potential to delay cargo movement and affect the efficiency of port operations if left unresolved. Acting promptly, the NSC convened stakeholders from both companies to review the concerns, clarify responsibilities, and agree on a path forward that aligns with existing port regulations and industry standards.
The resolution reinforces the Council’s role as an economic regulator tasked with protecting the interests of shippers, service providers, and other players in the maritime value chain. By facilitating dialogue and applying regulatory oversight, the NSC was able to prevent escalation and restore normal operations at the affected terminal.
Speaking on the outcome, officials of the Council noted that the swift resolution reflects its ongoing commitment to trade facilitation and the promotion of a predictable business environment in Nigerian ports. The Council emphasized that maintaining industrial harmony is critical to improving cargo dwell time, reducing costs, and supporting the federal government’s port efficiency agenda.
Both Sifax Group and AGL Logistics acknowledged the Council’s role in addressing the matter and expressed readiness to comply with the agreed terms. The NSC said it would continue to monitor compliance and engage stakeholders to prevent similar disputes, underscoring that cooperation between terminal operators and logistics firms is essential for seamless port operations and sustained trade growth.
