The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, is set to host deposit insurance and financial safety-net leaders from across Africa for the 2026 Annual Meeting and Workshop of the International Association of Deposit Insurers, IADI, Africa Regional Committee.

The 4-day event will hold from 20th to 23rd July 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria. The theme for this year’s gathering is “Safeguarding Stability: Public Awareness and Crisis Readiness for a Stronger Future.”

NDIC said the meeting is aimed at strengthening how deposit insurance systems across the continent prepare for, communicate during, and respond to financial crises, in line with the revised IADI Core Principles.

Regional Leaders to Converge in Abuja
The programme will bring together Chief Executives, Directors and senior officials of deposit insurance institutions, financial regulators and other members of the financial safety net from Africa and beyond.

Discussions will centre on building depositor confidence, improving public communication, and enhancing coordination among agencies that protect the financial system. Participants will also review practical tools for crisis management, resolution, and recovery.

A key part of the agenda is peer learning. Delegates will share experiences on emerging risks such as financial technology innovations, digital payments and cyber threats, and how these affect deposit insurance operations.

Technical Sessions and Simulations
The workshop will feature technical committee meetings, plenary sessions, and interactive roundtable discussions. Topics include public awareness strategies in both stable periods and during crises, crisis preparedness frameworks, and system-wide response operations.

Simulation exercises will also be conducted to test institutional readiness and response capacity of deposit insurers across the region.

Dignitaries Expected
The event will be declared open by Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, is expected to deliver the keynote address.

Other dignitaries expected are Ms. Eva Hüpkes, Secretary General of IADI, and Ms. Julia Oyet, Chairperson of the IADI-Africa Regional Committee.
The Chief Host is Mr. Thompson Oludare Sunday, Managing Director/Chief Executive of NDIC.

NDIC said hosting the 2026 ARC meeting reinforces Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation in safeguarding financial stability. The Corporation added that stronger public awareness and better crisis preparedness are critical to maintaining trust in the banking system and protecting depositors.
