The Managing Director of DataPro Limited, Mr. Abimbola Adeseyoye, has said that Nigeria’s ambition to achieve a one trillion dollar economy will require more than ambitious targets, but the right policies, credible institutions, productive investments and sustained confidence in the economy.

Mr. Adeseyoye stated this on Tuesday in a keynote address delivered on his behalf by Mrs. Victoria Balogun, a Senior Rating Analyst at DataPro Limited, at the 2026 Finance and Business Online Publishers, FiBOP, Capacity Building Conference in Lagos.

The DataPro boss, who commended the organisers for bridging the gap between financial and economic issues and public understanding, also congratulated all awardees being honoured at the conference for their contributions in their respective fields.

He described the theme of this year’s conference, Unlocking Nigeria’s Economic Potential: Taxation, Industry, Insurance, Fintech, Trade and Investment as Catalysts for Nigeria’s One Trillion Dollar Mission, as both timely and significant.

According to him, the theme aligns closely with the focus of the recently concluded 2026 International Rating Webinar organised by DataPro, themed Sovereign Credit Rating: Africa’s Roadmap to Investment Grade Status, which held about two weeks ago.

Mr. Adeseyoye noted that both themes recognise that Nigeria’s economic transformation demands deliberate and coordinated efforts beyond setting economic size targets.

He said the conversation around unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential is incomplete without reference to credit ratings, which he described as critical to shaping investor perception and confidence.

Credit ratings, he explained, provide an independent assessment of creditworthiness and help investors understand the risks associated with lending to governments and businesses, thereby influencing investment flows and cost of capital.

The Managing Director stressed that the sectors highlighted in the FiBOP theme are essential to building a diversified and resilient economy capable of sustaining long-term growth.

He listed efficient taxation as vital to strengthening public revenue mobilisation and reducing over-reliance on oil revenue, while industrial development remains key to expanding productive capacity and creating jobs.

According to him, insurance plays an important role in improving risk management, which is crucial for business sustainability, while fintech has the potential to deepen financial inclusion and broaden access to financial services.

He added that trade and investment are critical to expanding market access, stimulating economic activities and positioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global economy.

Mr. Adeseyoye expressed optimism that with the right policy mix and collaboration among stakeholders in taxation, industry, insurance, fintech, trade and investment, Nigeria is well-positioned to unlock its vast economic potential and achieve its one trillion dollar economic aspiration.
