The Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Command have emphasized the need for stronger collaboration to enhance road safety in the country. The two organizations have pledged to work together to address the challenges facing road transportation, particularly in the haulage of goods and services.

The Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr. Pius Akutah MON, has emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between the NSC and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to improve road safety across Nigeria. Akutah’s appeal came during a courtesy visit to the NSC headquarters in Lagos by Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, the Sector Commander, RS2.1, Lagos Sector Command and his team of officers

Kehinde highlighted the positive impact NSC’s support has had on traffic conditions around Apapa and stressed the need for sustained cooperation.

He announced an upcoming “Ember Month” program scheduled for November 12th -14th, including a town hall meeting to promote road safety awareness among households and engage industry leaders and other uniformed agencies. Kehinde also showcased the FRSC’s new app, which allows users to check blackspots, monitor speed, validate licenses, and report accidents in real-time.

Responding to the visit, Akutah underscored NSC’s dedication to safety initiatives, particularly regarding cargo movement, drivers, and vehicles. He noted that the NSC has formed a Unit of Special Marshals to work alongside the FRSC in managing the heavy traffic caused by parked trucks in Apapa. Akutah also encouraged staff participation in the “Ember Month” activities and called for the enforcement of driving time limits to prevent fatigue-related accidents. He further advocated for developing a vehicle transit area to enhance road safety nationwide.

Supporting the broader safety agenda, Mrs. Ada Okam, NSC’s Director of Human Resources, recommended additional training for NSC drivers to align them with best safety practices.

The strengthened alliance between the NSC and FRSC signifies a robust approach to addressing Nigeria’s traffic and road safety concerns through strategic cooperation and community-focused initiatives.
