Edo Govt Hails Fidelity Bank As Bank Extends Food Bank Outreach To 8 Communities in Esan Central

Fidelity Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to community welfare and food security with the distribution of essential food supplies to more than 2,500 beneficiaries across eight communities in Uromi and Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.

The distribution, held recently at the Uromi Town Hall, was executed under the bank’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, the Fidelity Food Bank.

Speaking at the event, the Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the intervention goes beyond charity to restoring dignity and resilience for families facing economic pressures.

“Today’s distribution will provide over 2,500 beneficiaries with essential food supplies. This event goes beyond the distribution of food items; it is about uplifting lives, strengthening communities and supporting families with resources that contribute to their wellbeing and resilience,” Nwagboh said.

He explained that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 2, which seeks to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. According to him, the Uromi outreach was deliberately targeted at eight communities where the need is most pronounced.

Nwagboh disclosed that Fidelity Bank distributes 10,000 food packs every month through the Fidelity Food Bank programme in partnership with 19 partners across the country, ensuring consistent reach to vulnerable households.

The intervention was commended by the Edo State Government. Governor Monday Okpebholo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Jerry Uwangue, lauded Fidelity Bank for extending its humanitarian footprint to the people of Esan Central.

Uwangue said the gesture highlights the critical role corporate organisations play in complementing government efforts to improve wellbeing, especially at a time when families face rising living costs.

“At a time like this, when family needs come first, this act of kindness demonstrates that corporate organisations have a vital role to play in the wellbeing of our communities. On behalf of our Governor and the good people of Edo, particularly the people of Uromi, I thank Fidelity Bank for this remarkable demonstration of corporate responsibility and generosity. We encourage other corporate organisations to emulate this worthy example,” he said.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed gratitude to the bank, noting that the food packs would ease the burden of feeding their families and provide meaningful relief.

Launched in April 2023, the Fidelity Food Bank has become one of the bank’s most impactful CSR programmes. Since inception, it has distributed more than 300,000 food packs to beneficiaries across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
