The Customs Officers’ Wives Association, COWA, PTML Chapter marked a leadership transition on Wednesday when Hajiya Nabila Nura Miko formally assumed office as Chairperson. The handover ceremony, held at the PTML Command, drew officers, members, and stakeholders from across the port community.

Addressing attendees after taking office, Hajiya Miko thanked God for the opportunity and said she would approach the role with humility and a clear sense of duty. She acknowledged the work of COWA National President Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, noting that her direction has given chapters across the country stronger footing. She also recognized the efforts of her predecessor, Mrs. Ifeoluwa Anani, whose tenure, she said, produced programmes that remain visible in the chapter’s activities.

Hajiya Miko stated her intention to consolidate those gains while opening new areas of impact for members and the wider port community. “We will preserve what works and introduce fresh initiatives that speak directly to the needs of Customs officers’ wives and the families we serve,” she said.

The chapter comes into this transition with a record of consistent outreach. Under the immediate past administration, members organized events to mark International Women’s Day, hosted health-focused sessions under the “COWA Healthy Wife, Wealthy Life” banner, and ran Breast Cancer Awareness drives. Other activities included end-of-year welfare outreach, participation in the Green Border Initiative School Adoption programme, and lectures on environmental awareness.

Building on that base, the new chairperson outlined three core focus areas for her tenure. The first is welfare, with plans to strengthen support structures for wives of officers, particularly during periods of posting, transfers, or other service-related pressures. The second is empowerment, through wider skills acquisition schemes and programmes aimed at improving financial independence for members. The third is community service, with deeper involvement in health campaigns, educational support, and environmental projects around the port.

Hajiya Miko appealed for collective effort to drive the agenda. “This work cannot rest on one person. I ask for the cooperation, prayers, and active support of every COWA PTML member, the Command leadership, and all our partners. With unity, we will take this Chapter further,” she said.

Speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller, PTML Command, Deputy Comptroller N.I. Miko, congratulated the new executives and described COWA’s role as central to the Nigeria Customs Service. He said officers depend on stability at home to deliver on revenue, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling mandates. “When the home front is peaceful and productive, service delivery improves. We appreciate COWA for providing that support,” he noted.

The Controller pledged the Command’s backing for the chapter, including access to facilities, logistics, and other assistance needed to run programmes successfully. He also commended Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi for her leadership at the national level, adding that her guidance continues to shape the association’s relevance.

He ended with prayers for wisdom and strength for the new executives and expressed confidence that the chapter would record greater impact for PTML families during the current tenure.

With priorities now set around welfare, empowerment, and community outreach, the COWA PTML Chapter moves into a new phase. The leadership transition signals continuity and fresh energy, with expectations high that the next set of programmes will extend support to more families and deepen the association’s footprint within the port environment.
