ATSSSAN commends SAHCO salary review, urges more welfare for staff

Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria khas applauded Skyway Aviation Handling Company Plc for approving a salary review for workers across all stations, describing it as a morale booster at a time when aviation operations are growing in complexity. The union said the adjustment reflects management’s recognition of the physical demands and safety responsibilities that ground handling staff face daily.

ATSSSAN, however, urged management to go further by instituting long service awards and expanding training opportunities, especially for female employees. The association argued that recognizing long-serving staff builds loyalty, while targeted training will equip more women for technical and supervisory roles. It noted that aviation globally is pushing for more gender inclusion, and SAHCO can lead by example in Nigeria’s ground handling sector.

Chairman of ATSSSAN, speaking after the meeting with SAHCO management, noted that staff welfare must match the company’s safety and performance standards. “We welcome this salary review because it shows management values the effort of our members. Our next push is for long service recognition and targeted training so more women can rise into leadership and technical roles,” he said. He added that continuous training will also help staff adapt to new equipment and evolving safety regulations.

Mrs Adenike Aboderin responded that SAHCO’s “People, Process, Performance and Platform” strategy already prioritizes staff development. “Our people are our strongest asset. We will continue to invest in training, safety and welfare because excellent service starts with motivated staff,” she affirmed. She disclosed that the company’s recent ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and new GSE acquisitions were also driven by the need to give staff better tools and safer working conditions.
