There’s no case of coronavirus in Plateau, people quarantined for fear

Plateau State Government has reassured the people that there is no case of coronavirus was recorded in the state following a thorough investigation of a recent incident in Wase Council Area.

This was the fulcrum of the state executive meeting presided over by Governor Simon Lalong at Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.

State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang, who briefed journalists, said one of the issues which dominated discussions was the recent isolation of over 40 persons in Wase Council, which four Chinese nationals due to fear related to coronavirus outbreak.

He, however, stressed that adequate measures were taken to ensure that nothing was left to chance in the quest to protect citizens from the disease.

Also, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Azut Polycap, gave an update on steps taken to fortify the ministry’s Emergency Operation Centre to enable it to respond to outbreak of diseases efficiently.

He disclosed that measures have been put in place so that anybody who has an infection is overly given qualitative drugs, adding that the governor has approved some funds in that regard.

Manjang also addressed the delay in payment of the new minimum wage by the state government, saying the Lalong administration remains committed to its promise to pay after necessary agreements.

“On minimum wage, we have maintained that it is not an issue. Payment of salaries is not an issue. Payment of N30,000 as minimum wage is not an issue for Plateau State. Plateau State Government is ready to pay. The delay in salaries is the most important thing now. The delay in salaries is temporary.

“There are mechanisms being put in place to ensure that once we implement the minimum wage, it will be a smooth sail. The Luka Fomyil Committee was set up for that purpose and it is working with organised labour and they have to come to a nexus. We are discussing the consequential adjustment.

“Once the committee arrives reaches an agreement, salaries will be paid and minimum wage and consequential adjustment will be a thing of the past,” he said.
