ECOWAS Worries Over High Refugee Figure

The Economic Community of West African States  (ECOWAS) Parliament has expressed concern over the United Nations High Commission on Refugees’ report that the sub-region constitutes 40 per cent of the world’s 70 million refugees and displaced persons.

It blamed leadership failure for the political crises that triggered the humanitarian situation in the region.

The Secretary-General of ECOWAS Parliament, John Azumah, at the inauguration of the West African Parliamentary Press Corps/ Senate Press Corps Day, in Abuja yesterday, said it was regrettable that despite the efforts being made in West Africa, the area region was still plagued by multiple challenges.

He was represented by his Director of Parliamentary Affairs and Research, Mr K. Berlin Some.
