NCC, NBC plan framework for unused broadcast spectrums

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is partnering with the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to develop a framework on the best ways to exploit unused broadcast spectrums in the country.

Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta, who disclosed this at the seventh edition of the Digital Africa Conference and Exhibition in Abuja, said unused spectrums could be deployed in telecoms to provide affordable broadband services in rural communities to democratise access to broadband services.

Convener of the conference and Chairman, Digital Africa Group, Dr. Evans Woherem, said the world is now highly digitised and any country that desires to move forward should embrace exponential technologies to help it develop geometrically.

He noted that with new technologies, about 49,000 people are being removed from global list of poverty daily, lamenting that the reverse was the case in Africa.
