Federal Government plans to affirm state legislature, judiciary autonomy

The Federal Government has concluded plans to assert independence of the legislature and judiciary in the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Ita Enang, disclosed that a retreat was being planned at the Presidential Villa to deliberate and articulate an effective national implementation strategy on the matter.

He stated this while briefing newsmen on activities of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Autonomy of State Legislature and Judiciary headed by Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami.

Enang, who doubles as Secretary of the committee, said the retreat holds between May 16 and May 17, 2019.
