ICT roadmap improved infrastructure, e-govt, local content, says Communications Minister

Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has said the ICT roadmap, initiated by the ministry, has improved infrastructure development, e-government, capacity building, local content and innovation in the country.

He stated this at the second phase sensitisation workshop on national ICT roadmap for the South-East, with the theme: The Role of the Private Sector in Implementation of Nigeria’s ICT Roadmap in Awka, Anambra State.

The minister said the intention in developing the roadmap is to create broad and flexible pathways to ensure that ICT reaches all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

Shittu added that the sensitisation programme of the roadmap 2017-2020 had been deliberately planned by the ministry as part of its post-roadmap engagements in furtherance of its desire to broaden continuous consultations with stakeholders in the sector.

He said: “The sensitisation programme of the ICT roadmap will serve as an avenue for private sector stakeholders and participants to cross-fertilise ideas and experiences, share innovations, build enduring partnerships to ensure the realisation of the vision of government in putting in the ICT sector.”

However, the minister, who reiterated government’s commitment to ensure that the ICT sector realises its full potential as a viable alternative to diversification of the economy and weaning the sector away from oil, urged the private sector to embrace the roadmap and identify priority areas in it, and take appropriate action to enable them achieve their aspirations.

In his contribution, Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, who represented the governor of the state, Willie Obiano, described the workshop as timely, noting that the state has complied with the use of ICT in government business.
