Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara, has said that the state government under his watch will not be deterred or intimidated by Boko Haram’s recent attacks on four communities in the state.
The terrorists attacked Gajiram, Gajigana, Dalori and Gubio communities killing several lives and destroying property worth millions of Naira.
Umara stated this at the inauguration of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), agro-rangers squad at Government House, Maiduguri.
He said the state government was committed to ending Boko Haram insurgency to restore peace and stability.
His words: “I assure our people that the recent intimidation by insurgents at Gajiram, Gajigana, Dalori and Gubio will not deter us from our commitment to finding peace and stability in Borno State.
“We will not be frightened. We will not fear any threats; rather the threats have boosted our commitment and resilience until we find lasting peace.
“During my inaugural address, I pledged my commitment towards upholding Section 14 (1b) of the 1999 Constitution; that states: “Security and welfare of the people are the primary purposes of government.
“I am ready and ever committed to ensuring the fulfilment of that pledge,” he said, adding that government would sustain its collaborations with the military, police, State Security Services (SSS) and other security operatives to protect lives and property.
He also renewed calls for insurgents to surrender for deradicalisation and reintegration into society.
Meanwhile, the governor has urged Gubio residents not to flee over recent Boko Haram attacks and relocation of troops to re-strategise.
Umar made the call while addressing the people of Gubio over attacks of 5 Brigade military base and community last Sunday.
He said that the relocation of troops from Gubio was for the Army to re-strategise to protect lives and property in the community.
He, therefore, dismissed the allegation that troops have relocated from the community to 145 Battalion, Damasak, about 102 kilometres from Gubio.
The governor reassured the residents of their protection of lives and property, stressing: “The Army should establish a super camp to secure the community.”
