DG NIMASA Dr. Dayo Moberola has been appointed, and stakeholders in the maritime sector convened recently at the Eko hotel in Lagos to devise an agenda.

Among the issues that gained prominence were the automation of the ship registry and the appointment of competent Nigerians to manage the nation’s maritime sector. Other speakers filed lawsuits to ensure that there is a gender balance in the industry’s official appointments.

Many of the stakeholders in attendance believed that there were many quacks in charge of the industry, and they tasked the head of NIMASA with seeing that the funds for cabotage vessels were implemented to give local ship operators the capital they needed to own their own vessels.

In response, the Director General promised to promptly consider every suggestion, assuring that the automation of the ship registry would receive sufficient attention shortly. ‘Automation of the ship registry will happen quickly and we move on to look at gender inclusion’

We have learned from the past DGs and we are going to be calling you regularly for knowledge sharing. What we have learned today means we would look at all the inputs of stakeholders so that we can move the industry in the right direction.

Moberola noted that they would align with the vision of President Tinubu and the minister of Marine and Blue Economy if they achieved the expected dividends
