The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has delisted no fewer than 37 secondary schools from conducting the Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (SSCE) in Benue State over examination malpractices.
Benue State Commissioner for Education, Professor Dennis Ityavyar, who dropped disclosed this, said some National Examination Council (NECO) centres were also suspended for examination malpractices.
He explained that the 37 schools that were delisted were found to be notorious in examination malpractice.
He said the state government has also identified 38 principals championing examination malpractices in the effected schools and that they would be sanctioned accordingly.
Tyavyar pointed out that the ministry would demote the 37 principals of the affected schools as part of measures to ensure sanity in the system, adding that the remaining one would be sanctioned alongside with the others for a similar offense.
He noted that even although the 38th school was not delisted, the examination body identified some sharp practices in the school, hence government’s decision to sanction the principal, to serve as a deterrent to others.
