Victims Support Fund (VSF) has earmarked N1 billion as a palliative for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East as the world battles the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The non-governmental organisation yesterday presented goods and other items worth N65 million to Adamawa State government for onward distribution to the vulnerable in the state.
The items included 2,455 bags each of 10kg rice, beans and maize, 2,455 sachets of 2kg salt and 2,455 kegs of 4ltr cooking oil.
Presenting the items, the chairman of VSF’s Task Force, Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, said the move was to contribute to the fight against COVID-19.
“There was no way people could be kept indoor when they are hungry. The way VSF can succeed in keeping people at home is to provide them with food. We are thoughtful to bring food to people here,” she said.
Listing medical products as some of the items for the IDPs, she noted that 10,000 households were targeted.
Receiving the items for the state, chairman of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Suleiman Mohammed, assured the donors that the items would reach the target.
She also pointed out that 27,000 households and partners across Lagos, Adamawa, Ogun, Borno, Yobe and Taraba states as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and critical stakeholders would be provided with medical consumables, water sanitation and hygiene facilities and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in support of the fight against COVID-19.
