VC orders immediate suspension of student for alleged cultism

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Professor Zana Akpagu, has approved the immediate suspension of one Obio, Godswill Okon of the Department of Physical Oceanography over alleged cult activities.

Obio, who is a fourth-year student with registration number is said to be a member of an outlawed secret cult and was caught with dangerous weapons and a bag containing charms.

A statement issued from the office of the Registrar, Moses Abang, disclosed that Ibio has been barred from the university and could only appear on campus on the invitation of the Disciplinary Committee, which is investigating the case and has recommended appropriate sanctions.

Akpagu has restated management’s zero tolerance for all anti-social activities including cultism.

Consequently, Dean, Faculty of Oceanography, Head of Department (HOD), Physical Oceanography, Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the institution and other relevant officials have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
