UBTH boosts facilities at isolation centre, Igbinedioan varsity donates medical supplies to host community

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) said it has expanded its services in the event that more cases of COVID-19 were reported in the state, which would require additional admissions.
Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof Darlington Obaseki said the Isolation Centre of the Hospital is functioning actively and striving for expanded services in the event of more cases of COVID-19 requiring admission.
Obaseki who disclosed this to Journalists in Benin City said that the Teaching Hospital in anticipation of COVID-19 patients has promptly repurposed, re-structured, equipped and activated a 10-bedded Isolation Centre to provide care for patients admitted.
He expressed appreciation to Governor Godwin Obaseki, who is Chairman of Edo State COVID-19 response team for his support and cooperation so far, saying, “The Hospital also has a Rapid Response Team comprising over 80 trained doctors, nurses, paramedics and other professionals, who are ready to attend to suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19.”
  Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, presented hand sanitisers and face masks to Okada, its host community as part of measures to contain coronavirus.
Ezemonye, who noted that the university has been supportive in its efforts at promoting a cordial relationship between town and gown, said the donation was part of its Community Support Programme.
Presenting the university manufactured WHO recommended hand sanitisers and face masks to the Odionwere of Okada for distribution to Okada community, Ezemonye, who was represented by the Registrar, Dr. Edwin Okoro, said it was the university’s contribution to the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
