Transporters want EFCC, police to probe alleged extortion at Lagos port

The Logistics Practitioners Association of Nigeria (LPAN) has appealed to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the alleged collection of N40,000 from trailer drivers before granting them access to the Mile 2-Tin Can Island road linking the Apapa Port, Lagos by a group that reportedly calls itself Truck Owners.
In a statement yesterday by its Public Relations Officer, Tunde Oyebola, the body stated that its members were Nigerian citizens that legitimately engage in transport business at the country’s air and seaports.
Oyebola said the ‘Truck Owners’ was not known to any law in Nigeria or registered under the Trade Union Act with mandate to regulate traffic or impose fees on transporters in the country.
