Tiv/Jukun crisis in Taraba a disgrace, shame, says group

The Mdzough-U-Tiv, umbrella body of the Tiv in Nigeria, has expressed disgust over the lingering crisis between the Tiv and Jukun in Taraba State, describing it as a disgrace and shame to the two sister ethnic groups.

President General of MZough -U-Tiv, Chief Edward Ujege and Secretary General, Boniface Ukende, in a statement issued in Makurdi, lamented the violent clashes between the two groups.

“The killings, which started several months ago in Abinse, Guma Council Area, to Ukum Council in Benue State have extended to Taraba State.

“The conflict is unnecessary, uncalled for and a disgrace to the cordial relationship between the two ethnic groups who have lived peacefully together in the past as brothers and sisters.

“These conflicts are enemies of the progress, which our people clearly need in this hour of numerous external challenges in Nigeria,” the statement reads.
