Planned, organized and hosted by foremost charismatic magnificent talented KJ (Karaoke Jockey), Jiboye Adekunle Olawanishola, popularly known as ‘The Maestro Sugarr’, KARAFEST saw music and Karaoke lovers gather to experience karaoke like never before.
Speaking exclusively to The New Experience Newspaper, Sugarr said..
Karaoke concept originated in Japan and China in the 1970s and has since become a popular activity worldwide.
According to him, the key element of karaoke include pre-recorded music and instrumental version of popular songs; lyrics display; on-screen display of song lyrics often with highlighting or scrolling; microphone for singers to perform; audio equipment like amplifiers, speakers and mixers.
Sugarr pointed out that Karaoke settings are best in bars, restaurants and other dedicated karaoke venues, adding that it could also be deployed to online platforms and applications (Apps).
He listed the benefits to include social bonding, stress relief, self expression and general improvement of vocal skills, adding that Karaoke comes as solo performance, group singing, karaoke competitions and contests and themed events like 80night. Its genres include pop, rock, hip-hop and rap, country music, as well as musical theatre and show times.
“Karaoke has evolved into a global phenomenon, offering a fun and engaging way for people to enjoy music and socialize and was brought to Nigeria by a very distinguished Indian called Mr. Haresh Chulani We know him as Mr. H. So he brought karaoke to Nigeria back then, I think in the late 1980s and 1990s.
On the second edition of KARAFEST, slated for Saturday, December 7 2024, SUGARR, who indicated his willingness to work with sponsors, highlighted what being part of the event can do for brands.
“First of all, every sponsor wants a mature, patronising crowd. Whereby they can reach out to a certain number of people and market their brand. Now, take, for instance, KARAFEST, a Karaoke festival that boasts of 3,000 people and I approach some banks, let’s say, GTBank, First Bank and Polaris Bank, among others.
“And I tell them, at least, you know, I have an upcoming event with capacity of between 3,000 guests in attendance. It’s an opportunity for the Banks to be part of the event as a sponsor because the event creates a major avenue to secure prospective individuals to bank with them.
“So, it’s an opportunity for every sponsor to advertise, showcase their brands and market their services at the event. Every brand still needs more advertising and more customers.
Yeah, so KARAFEST gives that avenue to brands to associate and meet with these guests, and hopefully they sell their services,” he stated.
For the second edition, SUGARR says the event will still hold at last year’s venue, Wild Charcoal Restaurant, Ikeja, but expecting a
larger audience this year
highlighting strategies for promotion.
