The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has disclosed that it screened and treated about 20,000 persons from oil-bearing communities in Ohaji, Imo State of various ailments under its Community Care Programme.
SPDC’s Clinical Governance Lead, Dr. Ufuoma Ovwigho, stated this at the end of the two-day Programme in Umunwaku-Amafor, Ohaji /Egbema Council of the state.
The medical team comprised licensed doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists, opticians and dentists, among others.
She said the beneficiaries were diagnosed and treated for hypertension, HIV, diabetes, malaria fever, eye and cancer using mammography for screening at referrals.
The team also visited Umuapu (Amnesty Junction), Obosima, Ohuba, Assa, Awara, Obile and Ochia in the last outreach.
Ovwigho added that the project was the outcome of the construction of $3.6 billion Assa North, Ohaji/Egbema South Gas Development Project, which will soon commence.
