Senator flays Yari, links him to Zamfara State APC crisis

The senator representing Zamfara Central in the National Assembly, Kabiru Marafa, has flayed Governor Abdulaziz Yari, saying he was the genesis of the crisis rocking the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing reporters at the weekend on the disputed primaries of the ruling party leading to its exclusion from the 2019 general elections, the lawmaker deplored the “sundry misdemeanor” allegedly perpetrated by the governor, adding that other Nigerians were making a mockery and caricature of his people on account of the “deceit which characterised the purported exercise orchestrated by Yari.”

Marafa, who maintained that it was not within the purview of state governors and party leaders to conduct primaries, however hailed the judgment of the Court of Appeal that declared that no such exercise held in the state.

His words: “So, at the end of the whole thing, truth must prevail, undoubtedly. No fear about that. The truth is that there were no primaries in Zamfara, the world knows, Allah knows, the angel knows and everybody knows.

“Even if somebody tries to paint it somehow, somebody will come, a good man will come and restore back the original paint. And the original paint is white. The white is the truth, the truth is that there were no primaries and the Court of Appeal has just done justice to that.

“You know, we were quite apprehensive from the beginning, fearing that we might not get justice. But they have done justice to that case and they have made the judiciary proud and the people of Nigeria proud. If that was not done, I would have been afraid about where we were heading to.”

He added: “I read the judgment and I was really very proud of the way it was written.

“Unfortunately, he (Yari) has put all of us from Zamfara to shame because people are mocking us and asking ‘Is this the Sharia you people are professing?’

“And that is the most unfortunate thing. We claim to be ahead, and you know if you are ahead, you must assure responsibility and leadership. And what he (governor) did was, to say the least, quite disgraceful and shameful.”
