A heavy rainstorm has wrecked severe havoc at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Aleke in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, destroying property worth over N500 million.
It also disrupted business and academic activities at the institution, as students and staff members were seen in groups discussing the incident in hushed tones.
The school’s library, ICT block, Pro-Chancellor office, University Auditorium, Entrepreneurs Centre, Faculty of Science Administration Block, NEEDS Assessment Building, about 15 Solar-powered security lights stands and two Female Halls of Residence, among others were destroyed.
Speaking on the incident, Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, said he was shocked at the level of devastation the rainstorm dealt the institution.
He added that he had to call-off a meeting in Enugu to come back to base, adding that the property destroyed would cost the university over N500 million to rehabilitate.
