PTI’s digitisation critical to oil, gas sector, says management

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has said its digitisation project (DiPTI) was initiated to transform the Institution into a major hub for oil and gas training in Africa and the world.

Speaking at the Matriculation ceremony of 1,792 new students, its Principal and Chief Executive, Prof. Sunny Iyuke, who was represented by the Deputy Principal, Dr. Henry Adimula, said the digitisation project represents a major innovation in the Institute, which he said, was well equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.

The project would see the Institute partner with several institutions to share ideas, provide a viable platform for students and exchange of staff members for the mutual benefit of all parties.

He said, “PTI, for 48 years running has been the hub for petroleum expertise with a reputation for providing hands-on, high quality technical education in petroleum disciplines for the oil and gas sector.

“PTI graduates are making waves in their various fields, as there is no oil company in the country without PTI graduate. I challenge you all to strive harder to achieve academic distinction and project the brand the institution has built over the years.

“It is a known fact that the world is now a global village. Globalisation is about partnership, and in this knowledge age, knowledge generation is not confined to only the institute, but also includes industries and other organisations.”

He, however, challenged the new students to be creative and resourceful in order to excel in their chosen disciplines, urging them to contribute their quota to the development of PTI.

He cautioned against examination misconduct, certificate forgery, stealing, physical and sexual assault, cultism, drug peddling and smoking of Indian hemp and other hard drugs on campus, stressing that these were crimes that attract sanctions and even expulsion.
