President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated new Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Elias Mbam and 29 commissioners at the State House, Abuja yesterday with marching orders to sanction tax defaulters.
The President also hinted of his readiness to ensure that the Ninth National Assembly gives legal backing to the proposed move through an enabling law.
He charged the new team to exploit more revenue sources other than oil, insisting that he made a pledge on June 12 to lift 100 million poor Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years.
His words: “Use all legal ways and means to strengthen its monitoring mechanism and block all revenue leakages from the Federation’s Account.
“All relevant laws and regulations on revenue collections and remittances should be fully complied with and appropriate sanctions meted to defaulters.”
