Police arraign dismissed killer soldier in Abia State

The Abia Police Command has arraigned the dismissed 29-year-old army corporal Ajayi Johnson before an Umuahia Chief Magistrate’s Court on a one-count charge of unlawful killing of one Chimaobi Jeremiah Nworgu, a commercial motorcyclist, at his Umuokereke Ngwa village in Obingwa council area of the state on August 7 this year.

The accused reportedly killed his victim for allegedly refusing to part with an N100 bribe at a military checkpoint.

An indigene of Kogi State, Johnson told the court that he was yet to access a defence counsel when asked by Chief Magistrate Lynda Ugbaja.

For lack of jurisdiction, the presiding magistrate ruled that the case file be transferred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for onward transmission to the high court.

She ordered that the accused be remanded in prison before adjourning the matter to September 16.
