Petrol scarcity: Long queues resurface in Abuja over price hike

Long queues returned to retail outlets in Wuse, Gwarimpa, Wuye and Kubwa areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Tuesday while other parts of the city were not selling the product to members of the public.

A private car owner, Yusuf Philip, told our reporter that he did not know the reason for the queue, adding that government should put measures in place to bring sanity to the petroleum industry, adding that the queues were resurfaced three weeks after normalcy returned to the city.

“They encourage a black market and most times their fuel is bad. We don’t need to always face this problem in buying petrol every time in the country, we need a permanent solution,” he said.

A taxi driver, Peter Edmond said he has been at the petrol station since 6:00 a.m. and was yet to buy petrol as of 1:30 p.m.

“This is my source of livelihood; my family depends on this daily and this fuel problem will slow my productivity and lower my return every day. I am scared of buying black market due to bad fuel they normally sell to the public,” Edmond said.

A manager at one of the filling stations in Wuse, who pleaded anonymity, said there was enough fuel on the ground and that people were just buying fuel in panic.
