Oyo/Osun Customs Chief Meets Traditional Rulers to Boost Trade

The Acting Customs Area Controller, Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Deputy Comptroller Wale Adewole, has reached out to traditional institutions in a bid to strengthen the fight against smuggling in the region. Adewole recently paid courtesy visits to the Aseyin of Iseyin Land, Oba (Dr.) Sefiu Olawale Oyebola Adeyeri III, and the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, seeking their support and collaboration in the efforts to curb smuggling and promote legitimate trade.
During his visits, Adewole emphasized the crucial role traditional institutions play in maintaining peace, security, and order within their communities. He explained that the Nigeria Customs Service is committed to its core mandates of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, and facilitation of legitimate trade, and sought the traditional leaders’ assistance in sensitizing their people on the dangers of smuggling and the benefits of legitimate trade.
The Aseyin of Iseyin Land and the Soun of Ogbomosho pledged their support for the Customs’ efforts, assuring Adewole of their commitment to discouraging smuggling and promoting lawful trade within their domains. They commended the Nigeria Customs Service for its efforts in safeguarding the nation’s economy and expressed their willingness to partner with the Service to ensure economic stability, security, and national development.
The visits are part of the Oyo/Osun Area Command’s strategy to strengthen relationships with stakeholders, including traditional institutions, to enhance operational effectiveness and promote economic growth.
