Onne customs seizes 64 containers of military wears, Tramadol, others

The Area II Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Onne, Rivers State, has seized 64 containers loaded with military wears, Tramadol, foreign rice and other contraband goods.

It disclosed that the impounded 40foot containers also had Hyergra, Diclofenac and Analgesic tablets of different types.

The Command’s Area Controller, Galadima Saidu, said the seized items have a duty paid value (DPV) of N1.6 billion.

He stated this yesterday while reviewing the Command’s activities for 2018 and its achievements in the first quarter of 2019.

Saidu noted that the seizures followed various infractions such as false declaration, concealment, wrong classification, import without end user certificate and complete disregard for import and export guidelines with intent to bring in illicit goods.

He expressed concern that in spite of awareness on the consequences of smuggling on the economy, some persons still engage in smuggling for their personal interests.

The Onne Customs boss also disclosed that the command generated N94 billion in 2018, about 80 per cent of annual target of ₦117.8 billion.
