The youth wing of Ohanaeze-Ndigbo led by Arthur Obiora has mulled the possibility of setting up a security network code-named Operation Ogbunigwe to safeguard the Igbo from Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen attacks.
Obiora, who spoke in Awka, Anambra State, pointed out that the intention of the youth body stemmed from the purported unrealistic approach of the South East governors, which he said, was affecting the Igbo negatively.
He said through their apathy and naivety, governors of the region were still toying with the lives and property of Igbo people who they swore to protect.
“Our determination to come up with Operation Ogbunigwe is a foregone conclusion, even if the governors still delay its commencement. We need to set up a security network in the South East zone to fortify and give the Igbo advantage in free trade,” he stated.
Obiora added that the youth wing under his leadership has made proposal to the governors and was awaiting their response, stressing that if those who call themselves the chief security officers in the zone were not forthcoming, the youths would set up Operation Ogbunigwe latest by June this year.
He said the youths, as foot soldiers of the parent body and Imeobi Ohanaeze-Ndigbo, would work to protect the ideology, constitution and implement most of the decisions of the groups.
He disclosed that he would not give details of modalities for the operations of the security outfit, given its security implications, but promised seamless takeoff after due consultations with relevant stakeholders.
Obiora also noted that when Operation Ogbunigwe finally takes off, it would work like the Operation Mgbugba security outfit in Anambra State as a security aide to former Governor Chris Ngige that ensured that everyone went to sleep with their eyes closed
He also insisted on restructuring of the Nigerian society, polity and economy, as the only panacea to end mutual suspicion, injustice and disrespect for federal character.
