By prince Benson Davies
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has embarked on a tour of the Onne Port, where he tasked terminal operators to increase their investment efforts to enhance the port’s efficiency and competitiveness. The NPA boss emphasized the need for terminal operators to increase their investment in modern equipment, infrastructure, and technology to support the federal government’s economic diversification agenda. During the tour, the NPA MD inspected various facilities at the port and engaged with stakeholders to identify areas for improvement.
Speaking During his visit to INTELS Logistics Nigeria Ltd at the Onne Port Complex on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Dr. Dantsoho emphasized the need for a robust investment drive to keep pace with Nigeria’s maritime neighbours along the West and Central African coast.
“With the quantum of investments our maritime neighbours are attracting, we can only stay competitive if we redouble our efforts to provide requisite infrastructure and equipment,” Dantsoho stated. “This will ensure we attract vessels that can scale up cargo throughput and adequately serve our large population.”
He reiterated NPA’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for increased investment in Nigeria’s ports, highlighting that this aligns with the mandate of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
“As far as this management is concerned, we have the mandate of the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy to create the enablers for increased investment, and we are poised to do just that, he further stated.
The visit was part of the NPA management’s broader tour of the Eastern Ports, aimed at assessing infrastructure needs and fostering collaborations with terminal operators.
At the West African Container Terminal (WACT) in Onne, the NPA Boss reemphasized the agency’s strategic focus on enhancing port competitiveness through increased capacity and efficiency
