The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states has charged governors of the region to ensure that they put security measures in place to end what it described as “senseless killings” in that part of the country.
Its Chairman, Reverend Yakubu Pam, specifically urged them not to be deterred by the current antics of terrorists but brace for the recent security challenges by bringing all killers to book.
In a statement issued in Jos yesterday, Pam, noted that leaders of communities affected by the recent attacks and killings in Plateau State and other parts of the North should be held accountable to open up to the government and security agencies by disclosing those behind the dastardly act.
He stressed that it was only by doing so that the evil merchant of death would be brought to justice.
He condemned the recent attacks and killings in Kuben and Kwatas in Bokkos and Mangu council areas of Plateau State in which no fewer 15 persons were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Pam pointed out that the people of Plateau had joyfully crossed over from 2019 to 2020 with a lot of hope and aspirations for the year 2020, but “merchants of death as agents of Satan emerged from their hiding places killing, destroying homes and property of innocent people under questionable circumstances.
He, however, assured the people of Bokkos and Mangu and other restive communities in Plateau State that God would intervene on their behalf, stating that Almighty God was in charge of the affairs of his people.
According to him, God is watching over the current happenings in the North, especially Plateau that has become the target of insurgents, assuring the government and the people that God will neither forsake, nor abandon them at their trying moment.
He also assured them that God would rescue them from the hands of their tormentors and so they should not allow their hearts to be troubled over the unfolding events, but remain faithful to serving the creator of Heaven and Earth.
The Northern Christian leader also condemned the recent killing of Ropvil Daciya Dalep, a level 200 student of the University of Maiduguri from Plateau State and others who were kidnapped on their way to Maiduguri.
