The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) is considering expanding its maritime security architecture, known as the Deep Blue project, to ensure sustainability and greater impact. The project has been successful in enhancing maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea and has gained global recognition.

NIMASA Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, made this known during a strategic visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja. Mobereola commended the Navy for their harmonious collaboration with NIMASA and called for continued partnership under his watch.

The DG emphasized the importance of sustaining the partnership between NIMASA and the Navy, noting that the Deep Blue project has been commended by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). He stated that the project is vital and that countries around Africa and other parts of the world are coming to copy the model.

Mobereola also congratulated the Chief of Operations, Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who is joining the NIMASA governing Board as the Navy’s representative.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, welcomed the NIMASA DG and his delegation, commending the Agency for the good work it is doing in the maritime sector and its continued support to the Nigerian Navy. He noted that part of his command’s objective is to work in synergy with other agencies to achieve their goal as a country.

The CNS also solicited for the Navy to be called upon for such needs as vessel repair, hydrographic surveys, and chartings, stating the Navy’s capacity in handling such tasks. He also commended NIMASA for its recent launch of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) Application Portal.
