NIMASA Accredits 27 Shipyards, Boosts Maritime Safety

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has accredited 27 shipyards to operate in Nigeria, ensuring they meet the required operational, technical, and environmental standards. The accredited shipyards include:

– NigerDock FZE
– Starzs Marine and Engineering Limited
– West Atlantic Shipyard Limited
– Others (24 more)

Key Highlights:

– The accreditation is part of NIMASA’s efforts to promote safety, transparency, and sustainable growth in the maritime industry.
– The agency aims to boost investor confidence, protect maritime assets, and promote sustainable industry growth.
– Vessels constructed in accredited facilities will be assigned a Keel Identification Number (KIN) and be eligible for an IMO Number.

Accredited Shipyards by State:

– Lagos State: 10
– Rivers State: 8
– Delta State: 9

NIMASA’s Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring that every shipyard operating in Nigeria adheres to international standards of safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency.
