Nigeria not yet supporting any candidate for ICAO presidency

The Federal Government has declared that it has not made commitment to support any candidate for the Council Presidency of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

It made the assertion in a statement issued by Deputy Director, Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu in which it explained what Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika said during a visit of the UAE Ambassador and the country’s ICAO Council Representative.

“What the minister said was that in supporting any of the candidates, Nigeria would join hands with other member-nations to elect someone with capacity to build on the achievements of the outgoing Council President, Dr. Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu,” the statement reads.

It stressed that Nigeria has not taken a decision on any of the candidates and as a major player in the aviation community, will make its choice known at the appropriate time, as it had always done.
